Game #1 LSU 31 - Washington 23
09/05/09
Man oh man what a first game. First off, it was the latest starting game in Husky Stadium history. So leaving for the game around 5 just felt odd. Weather wasn't great but we got geared up a left for the game. As you can see in this first picture the rain looked like it was going to be a factor.
But at any rate we got our act together and got on the road. Seeing as I haven't done much physical activity lately, I wasn't really looking forward to the walk to Husky Stadium. We park in a pretty sweet spot that doesn't make us pay. The only problem is, on the way back you have to walk up a hill that makes you want to die. Well, let's take a look at what this hill looks like.
Now, I know what you are probably thinking....not that tough. And if we are talking about going down the hill, then you are totally correct. But even going down this hill, all you can think about is, 'at some point, I'm going to have to walk back up this god awful thing!'
Once we got through that part we had to walk under the bridge and another final hill before acutally being at the stadium. I can say this, after going to a couple of Husky games, I'm sure to shed a few pounds, there is no doubt about that. Here is a picture of the bridge that we walk under to actually get ourselves to the game. Not to sure what the guy in the picture was thinking when I snapped a pic behind him. He didn't say anything so I think we are cool.
The picture is a touch on the blurry side but it was hard to snap a picture with that dude so close to us. Finally, we reached the field and as you can imagine with a 7:30PM start the were just a few heads with some brew in them. Believe it or not LSU brought the house with fans. There were a TON of Tiger fans on hand and I have to say they were just about as much of a pain in the ass as Coug or Duck fans are when they come to Seattle. On the whole though, I don't think they thought they were going to get the kind of game that they got. They went silent after that first drive, this I can assure you. But....a couple of Washington mistakes later and there they were, yelling L-S-U! L-S-U! Can't tell you how tired I got of hearing that. This is what it looked like when we got to the game.
There is no doubt that from the second that we got there, that the feeling around the stadium was different than in years past. Of course, some of that is due to the fact that #11 LSU was in town but it also felt like a lot of people thought we had a chance. It was also something else to see Husky Stadium under the lights. When we drove down and scored on the first drive of the game there was no doubt that I was thinkin we had a chance.
Sadly and like most years, it was the same stuff that cost the Huskies in the end. Poor tackling, stupid penalties and questionable play from defensive backs cost the team the game. Yes, the guy who was burnt twice for touchdowns was a freshman and I understand that. Also, in order for the team to truly shine, they are going to need the wide receivers to make plays. Big plays were made in the first game and that needs to continue. The wide receivers need to be better at the job they are supposed to do best, catch the ball and I think this group might be able to do that. Locker looks much improved and should do much better in an offense that asks him mainly to toss short passes. I'm excited and I have a good feeling the losing streak is going to be snapped against Idaho.
